Description

I'm using pytest ... --timeout=10. I would like to detect that the PyTest run failed due to a timeout, so I can re-try it several times. Is this possible?

Research direction

Start by tracing how pytest-timeout handles the --timeout=10 option and how a timed-out run exits. Determine whether callers can reliably distinguish timeout failures from other failures; done means establishing and documenting a clear detection behavior, with tests covering a timed-out pytest run.
