Description

Recently I have been puzzled on how to deal with AI-assisted contributions.

On one hand they might be helpful, on the other hand there is a series of concerns and uncertainties.

Our friends on the pip project have a very interesting discussion on the topic and have proposed a thoughtful policy document based on the one by attrs: https://github.com/pypa/pip/issues/13827.

Should we adopt something similar?

Research direction

Start by reading the discussion in pip issue #13827 and the referenced attrs policy document. Compare those proposals with setuptools' current contribution guidance, then define what a setuptools policy would need to cover and document the agreed outcome.
