Description

In Solaris, if I have a setup.py file with a C extension and add extra arguments for the linker, e.g.

setup(
    ...
    ext_modules = [Extension("some_ext", extra_link_args = ["-L/some/path", "-lsome_file"])]
    )

Those arguments will not end up passed to the compilation command when I call build_ext.

Research direction

Start with the setup.py example and the build_ext path used on Solaris, then reproduce the C extension build with extra_link_args containing the shown -L and -l options. Done means the compilation command receives those linker arguments when build_ext runs.
