Research direction

Start by locating the NumpyMatrixOperator implementation and reviewing how it handles NumPy arrays and SciPy sparse matrices. Investigate pydata/sparse array compatibility and existing related tests; done means the operator accepts these arrays without breaking current supported inputs.
