Research direction

Start by locating the design_info object and the former subset function or related design-matrix APIs in the Patsy codebase. Determine how column selection is intended to work and whether the result should preserve design metadata. Done means users have a supported way to subset design-matrix columns, with the behavior covered by appropriate tests or documentation.
