Cannot focus on items in frames

Description
I'm currently working on a messenger app, I have the input TextArea and the send Button in frames, but I cannot shift focus to them. If I put a checkbox in instead of Buttons or TextAreas, I can shift focus and toggle the checkbox. I'm running Windows 10.
