Trigger on focus event?

This is my implementation:

console = TextArea()

def on_focus():
    console.buffer.text = 'has focus'


def on_focus_out():
    console.buffer.text = 'focus out'


def before_render(_):
    if get_app().current_buffer == console.buffer:
        on_focus()
    else:
        on_focus_out()

...

application = Application(
        layout=Layout(root_container),
        key_bindings=bindings,
        mouse_support=True,
        full_screen=True,
        before_render=before_render
    )

Is there a more elegant way to do this?

Start by reviewing how Application, Layout, TextArea, and get_app().current_buffer expose focus state, then compare that with the before_render callback shown in the issue. The issue does not name a file or test, and completion would need to be defined as identifying or documenting an appropriate focus-event mechanism.
