Description
Recently discovered that the general metrics returned from prom-client when running on Ubuntu include (among many others):
process_virtual_memory_bytes
process_heap_bytes
process_open_fds
process_max_fds
and when run on macOS these 4 are missing. Wondering why this was and if this is known and expected?
I discovered this as I had created a test with a sort-of-snapshot of the results and that test fails on Macs but continues to work on Linux systems including CentOS and Ubuntu.

Research direction
No files or tests are named. Start by reproducing the general-metrics comparison on macOS and Linux, then inspect the metric collection and existing tests to determine whether the four missing metrics are expected; done means the cross-platform behavior is established and the issue has a clear documented or tested outcome.
