Description

Most appropriate sub-area of Processing 4?

PDE

Processing version

4.5.2

Operating system

Windows 11 Professional

Bug description

When I open Processing 4.5.2 on Windows 11 Professional and I press "File" -> "Print", the application proceeds to freeze for some extent of time (1 - 2 minutes). The bug only happens the first time I press print after opening Processing, once it has happened I can press print and the dialog opens like normal. The desktop computer I use has had printer connections in the past, 5 to be percise, and only one of them is a physical device. The others are things like "Microsoft print to PDF", or "Fax". I have tried recreating this issue on my laptop by removing all printers and scanners but had no sucess. Though, I can consistently recreate the issue on my desktop without failure.

Steps to reproduce this

You need:

Windows 11 professional
A computer with a printer connection that is not in range.
-My specfic printer is a HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 series, with a Microsoft IPP Class Driver.
Processing 4.5.2

Steps:

  1. Open a fresh processing application

  2. In the newly created file click - File -> Print

  3. The application will freeze (fully unresponsive) for about a minute until the file dialog finally opens

Research direction

Start at the PDE File -> Print entry point and reproduce the first-use freeze on Windows 11 with an unreachable printer connection. Trace why the initial print dialog takes 1–2 minutes to open, then verify that the dialog opens normally on the first attempt without regressing subsequent prints.
