there are a handful of things that are "auto-referred" in the repl, like pprint
that list is defined at https://github.com/clojure/clojure/blob/master/src/clj/clojure/main.clj#L355-L359

(def
  ^{:doc "A sequence of lib specs that are applied to `require` by default when a new command-line REPL is started."}
  repl-requires
    '[[clojure.repl :refer (source apropos dir pst doc find-doc)]
     [clojure.java.javadoc :refer (javadoc)]
     [clojure.pprint :refer (pp pprint)]])

Research direction

Start by reading the referenced repl-requires definition in src/clj/clojure/main.clj and the linked Slack discussion. Confirm which namespaces or vars should be automatically referred and where this behavior belongs; the issue is complete only when the intended REPL defaults are agreed and represented in the project.
