Description

We've gotten this feedback before but I am not finding an open issue currently; it came up during our alpha user feedback session. Folks feel that the default colors for syntax highlighting are too intense in dark mode; we haven't heard this from folks who use light mode.

Research direction

The issue names no file, test, or entry point. Start by locating the dark-mode syntax-highlighting color definitions and comparing them with the light-mode defaults. Done requires an agreed, less-intense dark-mode palette and verification that the updated colors apply correctly.
