Description

I'm often dealing with gps position logs and plotting them on maps to see where measurement targets have been moving.
These have loads of points, so for visual clarity I do not want markers on all points.
For normal xy scatter, there's marker-maxdisplayed , but there seems to be no analog for scattermap?

Research direction

Start by locating the scattermap marker implementation and comparing it with the existing scatter marker-maxdisplayed reference linked in the issue. Determine how scattermap currently selects and renders markers, then verify that the requested limit works for dense GPS point data without changing other marker behavior. Done means scattermap exposes an equivalent option and its behavior is covered by the relevant chart tests.
