Description

The fillgradient option for scatter traces is really helpful, particularly in conjunction with fill: "toself". However this does not appear to currently be supported for the WebGL versions of these traces. It would be great if this functionality was available in those traces as well.

Research direction

Start by locating the scattergl and scatterpolargl trace implementations, then compare them with the existing scatter trace support for fillgradient, especially with fill set to "toself". The work is done when both WebGL trace types support the option consistently and their behavior is covered by the relevant tests.
