Description

https://cpsievert.github.io/plotly_book/linking-views-without-shiny.html#limitations

Currently the persistent argument is logical, and when TRUE, it always uses OR logic for accumulating selections. Perhaps we could let persistent accept one of c("OR", "AND", "XOR", "COMPLEMENT").

Furthermore, it would be useful to be able to dynamically alter the selection mode (maybe when persistent = "dynamic" we could populate a custom icon or updatemenu button with all the possible options).

Research direction

Start with the limitations section linked in the issue and trace how the persistent argument and selection accumulation are handled in plotly.R. The requested behavior includes OR, AND, XOR, and COMPLEMENT modes plus a possible dynamic selector; done would require an agreed design and coverage for each supported mode.
