• suppressed y ticks, labels, gridlines

• better placement of y-axis label for stacked facets

• colors of density plots
  see our example from cookbook "distributions/filled density plots". looks like "distributions/histograms" does the correct thing

• regression lines

• add some more spacing around the graph: expand the range

Start with the unchecked items in tests/cookbook-test-suite and the referenced cookbook scripts such as axes.R, legends.R, and bars_and_lines.R. Reproduce one focused discrepancy against its linked expected output, then add a regression test; done should be defined per behavior rather than for this broad checklist.
