It'd be great to support external textures as well, as manually assigning these to material is not ideal.

Research direction

Start by tracing the FBX import path and the existing handling for embedded textures. Compare that flow with external-texture imports and verify that discovered external textures are assigned to the corresponding materials, including a regression check for both embedded and external cases.
