Confusing Data Types for Runtime Configuration

I am unsure what to make of the data types for the different runtime options. In the table, most ints are shown as strings with double quotes: "0", but the description further down shows a different data type for some settings, for example log_errors bool, while others seem to be a string as expected: display_errors string. As ini_get() always returns a string or false, it is not possible to actually check the datatype of the setting.
I hope I did not miss something very obvious, but this seems contradictory to me.
