Is there a way to make vimium work while a tab is loading, or about:newtab/home?

Description

While a tab is loading is very useful when moving through unloaded tabs. Also my workflow is affected if I move through a few tabs and stumble upon about:home/newtab or any firefox tab for that matter, at least for the tab navigation functionality.

I was wondering if there's a way to implement the above or this is heavily limited by FF api?

Research direction

Start by investigating Firefox extension API restrictions for tabs that are loading and for about:home, about:newtab, and other internal pages. Determine which tab-navigation behavior can be supported in those contexts and document the limitations or a concrete implementation scope. Done means the supported cases and remaining Firefox restrictions are clearly established.
