Research direction

Start by investigating the state_subscribeStorage and chain_subscribeNewHeads subscription APIs and whether Substrate supports an earlier start height. Determine the expected behavior and whether the change belongs in subxt or upstream; done should include a clearly specified, tested way to begin subscriptions from the requested height.
