Description

I use nix to install rustfmt,

so assume to support default installed rustfmt can just try to search path for rustfmt binary.

So https://github.com/oxidecomputer/rustfmt-wrapper/blob/bc2effe71de02a99f33a87ee86af84a439a88cea/src/lib.rs#L105

will be

  1. env
  2. rustup
  3. PATH

search

Research direction

Start at src/lib.rs around line 105, referenced in the issue, and inspect how rustfmt is currently located through env and rustup. Check how the wrapper searches executables, then add PATH lookup for a rustfmt binary after those sources. Done means the documented search order is env, rustup, then PATH, with behavior covered by the existing tests if present.
