New Kernel of 26.7 crashes on APU2 board

Describe the bug

After upgrading from 26.1.11 to 26.7 on my APU2 hardware it ends up in a bootloop unable to finish the update. A immediate reboot occurs right after the "update in progress" banner shows up on the console. I was able to get it running again by selecting the old kernel in boot manager (option 6). After that it tries the update, finds the wrong kernel but proceeds with all following steps leading to a kind a working state. If I then try to boot the new kernel it goes into the bootloop again:

Could not find any relevant information myself. Can provide on request

Additional context

Disabled watchdog to be sure it's not the culprit. No change

Reproduce the upgrade from OPNsense 26.1.11_10-amd64 to 26.7 on the PC Engines apu2 hardware, starting with the boot console output around the early watchdogd, upgrade, and configd scripts. Compare booting the old and new kernels and collect relevant logs; done means identifying the cause of the bootloop and confirming that the new kernel completes the update and boots successfully.
