Description

Maintainer: @Shulyaka
Environment: x86_64 master 48ada8aa

Description:

Postfix fails to start due to improper permissions.

# /etc/init.d/postfix restart
postfix: Postfix is running with backwards-compatible default settings
postfix: See http://www.postfix.org/COMPATIBILITY_README.html for details
postfix: To disable backwards compatibility use "postconf compatibility_level=2" and "postfix reload"
postfix/postfix-script: stopping the Postfix mail system
postfix: Postfix is running with backwards-compatible default settings

postfix/postfix-script: warning: not owned by group postdrop: /usr/sbin/postqueue
postfix/postfix-script: warning: not owned by group postdrop: /usr/sbin/postdrop
postfix/postfix-script: warning: not set-gid or not owner+group+world executable: /usr/sbin/postqueue
postfix/postfix-script: warning: not set-gid or not owner+group+world executable: /usr/sbin/postdrop
postfix/postfix-script: starting the Postfix mail system

This is fixed by running:

# chgrp postdrop /usr/sbin/postqueue
# chgrp postdrop /usr/sbin/postdrop
# chmod g+s /usr/sbin/postqueue
# chmod g+s /usr/sbin/postdrop
# killall -9 postdrop
# /etc/init.d/postfix restart

Can the package set these values on install?

Research direction

Start by inspecting how the Postfix package installs and configures /usr/sbin/postqueue and /usr/sbin/postdrop, then review the /etc/init.d/postfix restart path. Verify the installed files have group postdrop ownership and setgid permissions, and confirm that restarting Postfix no longer emits the permission warnings.
