Description
Describe the bug
sysupgrade causes the router to only boot into recovery
OpenWrt version
r0-285bdd2
OpenWrt release
SNAPSHOT
OpenWrt target/subtarget
mediatek/mt7622
Device
D-Link EAGLE PRO AI R32 A1
Image kind
Self-built image
Steps to reproduce
Upgrade using sysupgrade to SNAPSHOT r0-285bdd2, self-built. Tried various settings (saving config or not, etc), same result.
Upgraded several routers from SNAPSHOT r26671-e3afc7047b, one had a later build from around August with kernel 6.6.47, I didn't save the exact commit.
Actual behaviour
Router boots to recovery no matter what I try. The only way forward is to flash the recovery image using the recovery web interface.
Expected behaviour
Successful sysupgrade
Additional info
This happened on 5 different routers.

Research direction
Start by reproducing sysupgrade on the D-Link EAGLE PRO AI R32 A1 using the mediatek/mt7622 target and compare the supplied diffconfig with a known-working build. Investigate why the upgraded image enters recovery instead of booting; done means a self-built SNAPSHOT image completes sysupgrade and boots normally on the affected routers.
