Description

Hi,

I’m evaluating handwritten-japanese-recognition-0001 for possible commercial use.

Could you please clarify:

whether the pretrained .xml/.bin model files are covered by Apache 2.0;
whether those weights can be used in proprietary commercial software or SaaS;
whether the model can be modified or incorporated into a custom OCR pipeline;
and whether there are any additional restrictions arising from the Nakayosi/Kondate datasets used for training?

I do not intend to redistribute the original training datasets.

Thanks for your help.

Research direction

Start by reviewing the licensing information for the handwritten-japanese-recognition-0001 .xml/.bin model files and the Nakayosi/Kondate datasets. Done means the project provides a clear, maintainer-approved answer covering commercial use, proprietary software or SaaS, modification, custom OCR pipelines, and dataset restrictions.
