Research direction
Start with cobolchClaims-img6.gif, cobolchCOV19-img4.gif, and "COBOL Programming Course #3 - Advanced Topics.md". Check how the Markdown references the GIFs, convert those images to JPG, and update the references accordingly. Verify that pandoc with MikTeX/pdflatex can create the manual PDF without failing on unsupported GIF images.
