Description

ChatGPT/Codex desktop does not detect the official ChatGPT Chrome extension.
Environment

  • macOS 27
  • ChatGPT desktop: 26.915.31945
  • ChatGPT Chrome extension: 1.26.901.11451
  • Apple Silicon Mac
  • Personal ChatGPT account
    Problem
The official ChatGPT Chrome extension is installed and enabled in my Chrome profile and its side panel opens normally.
    However:
  • ChatGPT → Settings → Computer Use → Google Chrome shows “Browser extension is not installed”.
  • The Chrome side panel shows “Install the app to use ChatGPT in Chrome”.
  • Reinstalling the extension from Computer Use does not change the status.
  • Restarting Chrome and ChatGPT does not change the status.
  • Chrome does not appear in the @ menu in a new Codex chat.
I have only one ChatGPT.app installed in Macintosh HD → Applications.
    I also submitted /feedback.

The built-in browser in the ChatGPT desktop app works normally. Ispunjeno

Research direction

The report names no repository file, test, or entry point; it only describes the macOS desktop app and Chrome extension behavior. A contributor would first need to locate the desktop-to-Chrome integration and establish a reproducible test; done means the installed extension is detected and Chrome appears in the reported UI.
