Description
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
26.915.31029 (build 9771)
What subscription do you have?
Pro
What platform is your computer?
Darwin 25.6.0 arm64 arm
What issue are you seeing?
After the recent Codex app update, the "Start Dictation" shortcut no longer toggles dictation on and off. It now behaves like push-to-talk: dictation is active only while the shortcut is held down.
In the previous version, pressing and releasing the shortcut started dictation, and pressing it again stopped dictation. This regression prevents using the shortcut for hands-free dictation.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
- Open the updated Codex app and focus the message input.
- Press and release the shortcut assigned to "Start Dictation".
- Try to continue dictating without holding the shortcut. No dictation happens.
- Hold the shortcut instead and observe that it behaves as push-to-talk.
Actual result: the shortcut must be held down instead of toggling dictation with successive presses.
What is the expected behavior?
Pressing and releasing "Start Dictation" should start dictation and keep it active without holding the shortcut. Pressing the shortcut a second time should stop dictation, as it did before the recent update.

Research direction
Reproduce the Start Dictation shortcut behavior on Codex App 26.915.31029 (build 9771) on Darwin 25.6.0 arm64, following the listed focus, press, release, and hold steps. Trace the shortcut handling from the Start Dictation entry point and compare press-release behavior with held-key behavior; done means successive presses toggle dictation without requiring the key to be held.
