Description

Subject: Reproducible Windows system hang involving ChatGPT desktop app and War Robots

I encountered a reproducible system/compatibility problem when running the ChatGPT Windows desktop application and the game War Robots on the same laptop.

ChatGPT desktop version: 26.911.7940.0
Platform: Windows 11

During troubleshooting, I was able to reproduce a severe system hang associated with having War Robots and the ChatGPT desktop application/Codex running. The problem was sufficiently severe that normal operation of the laptop was disrupted.

The practical workaround was to remove the ChatGPT desktop application and use ChatGPT through the web browser instead. My purpose in reporting this is not to establish that ChatGPT is necessarily the root cause, but to flag a reproducible compatibility/resource interaction that may be useful to the Windows desktop/Codex engineering team or support knowledge base.

Additional issue encountered during troubleshooting:
A conversation created in the desktop app during this troubleshooting session subsequently disappeared. It does not appear in the associated ChatGPT Project on the web, and searching ChatGPT history for terms known to have been in the conversation (for example, “War Robots”) returns no result. Before uninstalling, I backed up the Windows package data directory for OpenAI.Codex_2p2nqsd0c76g0 in case it contains recoverable conversation information.

I have uninstalled the desktop application because I need to run War Robots and ChatGPT concurrently and the browser version provides a workable solution. I would prefer not to reinstall the desktop application or deliberately reproduce the system hang again unless there is a compelling reason.

If useful, I can provide screenshots and additional details already collected during troubleshooting.

Research direction

No repository file, test, or entry point is named. Begin by reviewing the Windows 11 and ChatGPT desktop version details, the War Robots coexistence report, and the missing conversation description. A useful resolution would require actionable diagnostics or a confirmed reproduction, but the reporter will not reinstall or reproduce without a compelling reason.
