Description

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

Version 26.911.61220

What subscription do you have?

Pro (5x)

What platform is your computer?

Darwin 27.0.0 arm64 arm

What issue are you seeing?

The pet feature used to let you track active background tasks, and get updates on them progressing, when they were completed etc.

This has now seemingly stopped working completely, and background / active tasks are no longer being tracked by the pet at all, vastly reducing utility.

It seems to still sporadically work for task completion statuses, and will show when a task has ended (even if the task was not actively tracked by the pet during execution), but even this seems very flaky and inconsistent, sometimes doing so, sometimes not.

For reference, this is mostly being tested with ChatGPT Work / agentic tasks.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Feedback ID: 01a0afe9-12e0-7413-934e-4db88b295c5d

What is the expected behavior?

The pet should be tracking active / live tasks that are executing in the background.

Research direction

No source files, tests, or implementation entry points are named. Start by reproducing the pet feature failure with background ChatGPT Work or agentic tasks on the reported Codex App version, using feedback ID 01a0afe9-12e0-7413-934e-4db88b295c5d as reference. Done means active tasks are tracked and progress and completion updates appear consistently.
