Description

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

ChatGPT web / desktop (GPT-6 Astra). Not Codex CLI-specific.

What subscription do you have?

ChatGPT (using GPT-6 Astra)

What platform is your computer?

Darwin (macOS)

What issue are you seeing?

When using GPT-6 Astra in ChatGPT with Japanese conversations, the automatically generated conversation titles frequently include Chinese and/or Russian text mixed into (or replacing) an otherwise Japanese-appropriate title.

This is not just “wrong translation of the topic.” The foreign-language fragments look unrelated to the Japanese conversation content, and match the broader pattern of contaminated / wrong-language auto-titles reported elsewhere.

Related reports:

What steps can reproduce the bug?
  1. Open ChatGPT and select GPT-6 Astra.
  2. Start a new conversation and chat entirely in Japanese.
  3. Wait for the automatic conversation title to be generated / updated.
  4. Observe titles that contain Chinese and/or Russian characters mixed into (or instead of) Japanese.

Frequency: recently / repeatedly while using Astra in Japanese (not a one-off).

What is the expected behavior?

Auto-generated titles should follow the language of the conversation (Japanese here), or the user’s ChatGPT language setting—not inject unrelated Chinese/Russian text.

Additional information
  • Primary language of affected chats: Japanese
  • Model: GPT-6 Astra
  • Contaminating languages observed in titles: Chinese, Russian
  • Happy to attach concrete title examples / conversation IDs if useful

Research direction

No Codex file, test, or entry point is mentioned; the report says the behavior is in ChatGPT web/desktop rather than Codex CLI. Start by checking the related issues and confirming whether this repository owns automatic title generation; done would mean Japanese chats consistently receive Japanese-appropriate titles without unrelated Chinese or Russian text.
