What issue are you seeing?

Describe the bug

When typing Korean (IME) in the Codex CLI within the VS Code Integrated Terminal on Ubuntu, the input buffer is repeatedly cleared or overwritten:

1. Every time a new Korean character or the Spacebar is pressed, the previously typed character disappears instead of appending.
2. When pressing Enter, the submission fails entirely because the prompt area becomes completely empty, resulting in a zero-length string being sent to the agent.

Note: This behavior does NOT occur in the native Ubuntu GNOME Terminal; it happens exclusively inside the VS Code Integrated Terminal environment.

To Reproduce

1. Launch Codex CLI in VS Code Integrated Terminal on Ubuntu.
2. Switch the system input method to Korean.
3. Type a Korean character (e.g., 안), then type the next character (e.g., 녕).
4. Notice that 안 immediately vanishes from the screen when 녕 is input.
5. Press Spacebar or Enter. The input line becomes completely empty and nothing is submitted.

Expected behavior

Korean characters should append correctly to the input line without erasing previous inputs, and pressing Enter should successfully submit the full text string.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

1. Launch Codex CLI (v0.154.0) inside the VS Code Integrated Terminal (v1.136.2) on Ubuntu 24.04.
2. Switch the system input method (IBus) to Korean.
3. Type a multi-byte Korean character (e.g., type 안), then immediately type the next character (e.g., 녕).
4. Observe that the previously typed character (안) is completely erased and overwritten instead of being appended.
5. Press Spacebar or Enter. The input prompt is wiped completely empty, sending a zero-length string to the agent and resulting in a total submission failure.

• Note: No specific code snippet or thread ID is required to reproduce this, as it is a universal behavior on the CLI's main prompt text-composer whenever Korean IME is active inside VS Code.

What is the expected behavior?

Multi-byte Korean characters should append correctly to the text buffer one by one without overwriting previous characters. Pressing the Enter key should successfully submit the full, completed text string to the Codex agent, regardless of whether the Spacebar was pressed beforehand.

Additional information

• This input destruction bug happens exclusively inside the VS Code Integrated Terminal environment. It does NOT occur when running Codex CLI in the native Ubuntu GNOME Terminal app.
• According to codex doctor, the current environment is running the x86_64-unknown-linux-musl standalone binary managed via global npm installation.
• This bug is consistently present regardless of whether the user tries to manually commit the text using the Spacebar.

Reproduce Korean IME input and Enter submission in the VS Code Integrated Terminal on Linux using Codex CLI 0.154.0.
