Description

What platform is your computer?

What issue are you seeing?
Voice mode in Codex Desktop on macOS progressively increases the speaking rate while reading longer or information-dense assistant responses. The pace can become extremely fast by the end of the response, making the speech difficult or impossible to understand. This makes Voice effectively unusable for normal conversations involving detailed answers.
This is a current behavior bug, not just a request for an optional playback-speed control.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
- Open Codex Desktop on macOS.
- Start a Voice conversation.
- Ask for a long or information-dense explanation.
- Listen through the full spoken response.
- Observe that the speech rate increases as the response continues; the ending is delivered at an abnormally high speed.
No session ID is available for this audio-output behavior.
What is the expected behavior?
The speaking pace should remain stable, natural, and intelligible from the beginning to the end of every response, unless the user explicitly asks to change it.
Additional information
Environment:

Related: #38106 requests persistent speed controls and mentions a similar symptom. This report tracks the existing default Voice behavior as a bug because speech accelerates without a user request and becomes unusably fast.

Research direction
Reproduce the issue in Codex Desktop on macOS using the listed steps, asking for a long or information-dense explanation and listening through the full response. Compare the speaking rate at the beginning and end, then trace the desktop Voice output path. Done means the pace remains stable, natural, and intelligible without an explicit speed change.
