Issue
After updating to this app build, the floating Codex Pet remains above every application window and interface, but it completely ignores mouse input. It cannot be clicked or right-clicked, dragged/repositioned, or hidden/tucked away through the normal controls. The Pet continues displaying/working and obstructs screen content while the user has no effective way to stop or remove it.
This is a regression observed after the latest installed update on this system.
Steps to reproduce
- Have a Codex Pet enabled, then update to or launch ChatGPT/Codex Desktop
26.908.40834. - Let the floating Pet overlay appear.
- Switch between Codex and other macOS application windows.
- Try to click or right-click the Pet.
- Try to drag it to another position.
- Try to hide/tuck away the Pet using the normal Pet controls.
Actual behavior
The Pet remains always on top across application windows, does not accept mouse interaction, cannot be moved, and cannot be hidden through the normal UI.
Expected behavior
The Pet should accept pointer input, be draggable, and be removable through the documented Hide/Tuck Away controls. It must not leave the user with an unmanageable always-on-top overlay.
Impact
The persistent overlay obscures content in every application and cannot be managed or dismissed, significantly disrupting normal desktop work.
Related issues searched
I searched both open and closed issues and did not find an exact duplicate. Related but distinct:
- #25695: macOS overlay hit area blocks clicks in underlying windows, rather than the Pet itself becoming entirely non-interactive and impossible to hide.
- #41920: Windows custom Pet reacts to input but cannot be dragged; this report is macOS and the Pet ignores all mouse interaction and cannot be hidden.

Research direction
Start by reproducing the Pet overlay behavior on macOS 15.7.4 with ChatGPT/Codex Desktop 26.908.40834 and bundled codex-cli 0.154.0-alpha.6.2. Check pointer input, dragging, right-clicking, and the Hide/Tuck Away controls across other application windows. Done means the Pet accepts input, can be moved, and can be hidden or removed without remaining as an unmanageable always-on-top overlay.
