Description

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

The affected Codex desktop app version has not been confirmed.

What subscription do you have?

Using a third-party API key for the preset-color issue. ChatGPT subscription details are not provided.

What platform is your computer?

Reporting machine: macOS 27.0, Apple Silicon (Darwin 27.0.0 arm64 arm).

What issue are you seeing?

There are two problems with Settings > Appearance > Accent in the Codex desktop app:

  1. Preset accent colors cannot be applied when using a third-party API key. Attempting to change Accent to one of the built-in preset values does not work.
  2. A Custom accent color does not apply to the chat box. After setting Accent to Custom and choosing a color, the chat box in the conversation view does not reflect that color.
What steps can reproduce the bug?

Problem 1: Preset accent colors

  1. Use the Codex desktop app with a third-party API key.
  2. Open Settings > Appearance > Accent.
  3. Try selecting a built-in preset accent color.
  4. Observe that the accent cannot be changed to the selected preset.

Problem 2: Custom accent color

  1. Open Settings > Appearance > Accent.
  2. Select Custom and choose a color.
  3. Return to the conversation view and inspect the chat box.
  4. Observe that the custom accent color is not applied to the chat box.
What is the expected behavior?
  • Built-in accent presets should be selectable and applied when using a third-party API key.
  • A custom accent color should apply to the chat box consistently with the Accent setting.
Additional information

The third-party API key condition is specifically reported for problem 1. Whether problem 2 also depends on the authentication method has not been established.

Research direction

Reproduce both failures in Settings > Appearance > Accent on macOS, including the third-party API key case and the custom-color chat box case. Trace how the Accent setting is stored and consumed by the conversation view. Done means built-in presets can be selected with a third-party key and a custom accent is reflected in the chat box.
