Description
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
Version 26.908.40834
What subscription do you have?
Chatgpt Plus
What platform is your computer?
Linux 7.0.0-30-generic x86_64 x86_64
What issue are you seeing?
I'm using the Codex desktop app on Linux Mint 22.3 Zena, Xfce, running X11.
The Pet overlay opens normally and I can click the message input field. The text cursor appears and blinks as if the field is focused, but no keyboard input is received.
Letters, Backspace, arrow keys, Enter, etc. do not work.
Interestingly, pasting text into the field using the mouse works normally. This suggests that the text field itself is functional, but keyboard events are not reaching the Pet overlay.
Environment:
Linux Mint 22.3 Zena
Xfce
X11 (XDG_SESSION_TYPE=x11)
Codex desktop app downloaded from the official ChatGPT/OpenAI website on September 12, 2026
Steps to reproduce:
Open Codex.
Open the Pet overlay.
Click the Pet message input.
The caret starts blinking.
Try typing or using Backspace/arrow keys.
Nothing happens.
Paste text using the mouse — pasted text appears normally.
The keyboard works normally everywhere else, including the main Codex interface and other applications.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
nothing.
What is the expected behavior?
writing normally

Research direction
Reproduce the failure in the Codex Pet overlay on Linux Mint with Xfce/X11, then compare keyboard handling there with the working main Codex interface. Trace the Pet overlay's input entry point and verify typing, Backspace, arrow keys, and Enter work while mouse paste remains functional; done means keyboard input works in the reported environment without regressing the main interface.
