Description

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

26.908.40401 (build 8837)

What subscription do you have?

ChatGPT Plus

What platform is your computer?

Darwin 24.6.0 x86_64 i386

What issue are you seeing?

Computer Use is installed and enabled, but Settings > Computer Use does not show "Any App". Only browser and Excel integrations are shown. Native applications are unavailable.

The app log reports:
Failed to spawn managed Computer Use service

The Computer Use backend returns:
apps: []

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Feedback ID: no-active-thread-01a09188-0a1d-7db2-b89a-0804761065e2

What is the expected behavior?

Settings > Computer Use should display "Any App", allowing Codex to request access to and control approved native macOS applications.

Additional information

Diagnostics:

  • unified-computer-use@openai-bundled is installed and enabled, version 26.908.40401.
  • computer_use is enabled and no managed requirements.toml, managed_config.toml, or MDM disablement was found.
  • The expected bundled component Codex Computer Use.app is absent from both the ChatGPT application resources and ~/.codex/computer-use/.
  • /Applications/ChatGPT.app/Contents/Resources/cua_node/lib/node_modules/@oai/sky/bin is empty.
  • Updating from version 26.903.71938 and reinstalling the official Intel build did not restore the component.
  • macOS Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions cannot be granted to Codex Computer Use because that helper application is not present.

Research direction

Start by inspecting the Intel ChatGPT application resources and ~/.codex/computer-use/, especially the expected Codex Computer Use.app and /Applications/ChatGPT.app/Contents/Resources/cua_node/lib/node_modules/@oai/sky/bin. Compare the installed official Intel build with the reported missing bundled component. Done means the managed service spawns, the helper can receive macOS permissions, and Settings > Computer Use shows Any App.
