Description
Component
Codex in the ChatGPT desktop application for Windows
Subscription and environment
- Active ChatGPT Plus subscription
- Windows desktop app version: 26.803.10989.0
- Date observed: September 11, 2026
- Signed in through ChatGPT
- Region/time zone: Asia/Shanghai
Problem
GPT-6 Astra was available in the model selector and worked normally on this same account during the previous two days. It then disappeared without any warning, plan-change notice, or explanation.
The model selector now shows only:
- GPT-5.6 Sol
- GPT-5.6 Terra
- GPT-5.6 Luna
- GPT-5.5
This is not a request for early access: the account already had working GPT-6 Astra access before it was removed or became unavailable.
Screenshot evidence
A screenshot captured at the time shows the model selector without Astra and the desktop application displaying “Reconnecting 1/5.” The screenshot also contains unrelated private conversation text, so that portion is not being published in this public issue. The relevant visible evidence is the missing Astra entry and the reconnecting state. The original screenshot can be provided privately to OpenAI staff if requested.
Requested resolution
Please:
- Investigate whether this is an account-entitlement synchronization error, outage, staged-rollout reversal, usage restriction, or intentional policy change.
- Restore GPT-6 Astra access for the affected Plus account.
- Confirm the current GPT-6 Astra eligibility rules for Plus users in Codex on Windows.
- Explain why previously working access disappeared without notice.
- Provide a written response and, if applicable, an incident/reference number.
Please do not close this solely with generic restart/update instructions. The key fact is that Astra was already available and working on this same account and client before it disappeared.

Research direction
No source file, test, or code entry point is identified. Start by reproducing the missing GPT-6 Astra model in the Windows desktop app with the stated Plus subscription and checking the “Reconnecting 1/5” state; done would require identifying the cause, restoring eligibility, and documenting the applicable response.
