Description

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

26.903.61454

What subscription do you have?

Plus

What platform is your computer?

Linux 7.0.0-31-generic x86_64 x86_64

What issue are you seeing?

I’ve been using the Codex CLI app on Linux and recently moved to the Linux desktop app.

My Codex conversations were created from several local project directories, including:

  • /home/me/homelab
  • /home/me/finance
  • /home/me/vault

The Codex configuration still contains these project roots, and the conversations retain their correct working-directory metadata.
However, in the Linux desktop app, all Codex conversations appear unassigned rather than grouped under their corresponding Projects.
Interestingly, when I open the ChatGPT mobile app and go to Remote, the same Codex conversations are grouped correctly into the expected Projects. This suggests the project associations exist and are being recognised by Codex, but are not being surfaced correctly by the Linux desktop app.

Expected behaviour:

  • Codex conversations should be grouped under the Project associated with their source directory, matching the grouping shown in ChatGPT mobile Remote.

Actual behaviour:

  • All Codex conversations appear outside Projects in the Linux desktop app.
  • The conversations still have the correct local working directories.
  • Mobile Remote displays the expected grouping.

This looks like a Linux desktop app project-indexing, metadata-sync, or UI-parity issue rather than missing project configuration.

Environment:

  • Linux desktop app
  • Previously used Codex CLI app
  • Same account and host
  • Local Codex projects
  • Mobile Remote grouping works correctly

Please investigate whether the Linux desktop app is failing to load or display Codex project associations after migration from the CLI app.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Research direction

Start with Feedback ID 01a08707-5b82-7d92-9a6a-c6abb96125c1 and compare the Linux desktop app's project grouping with the grouping shown in ChatGPT mobile Remote. Investigate how migrated Codex conversations use their working-directory metadata; done means conversations appear under the corresponding Projects instead of unassigned.
