Description

What issue are you seeing?

Codex Remote works correctly in the ChatGPT Android app immediately after pairing a host.

However, after completely closing the ChatGPT Android app and reopening it, the Remote interface/tab disappears entirely.

The paired hosts remain visible under Settings → Remote Control → Connections, so the pairing itself has not been lost.

Re-pairing one of the existing hosts immediately makes the Remote interface reappear. Remote then works normally until the Android app is closed again.

Steps to reproduce
  1. Pair a Codex Remote host with ChatGPT for Android.
  2. Remote appears and works normally.
  3. Completely close the ChatGPT Android app.
  4. Reopen ChatGPT.
  5. The Remote tab/interface is gone.
  6. Check Settings → Remote Control → Connections: the hosts are still registered.
  7. Re-pair a host.
  8. Remote immediately reappears.
  9. Close and reopen the Android app.
  10. Remote disappears again.
Expected behavior

The Remote interface should remain available after restarting the Android app when Remote hosts are already paired.

Actual behavior

The Remote interface disappears after restarting the app despite the existing Remote connections remaining registered. Re-pairing a host temporarily restores it.

Additional information
  • Reproducible consistently.
  • Multiple Remote hosts are registered.
  • Both desktop and Linux/Codex CLI Remote hosts are usable while the Remote interface is visible.
  • Google Play reports no newer ChatGPT version available.
  • Force-stopping/restarting the app does not fix it.
  • No screenshots attached.
Minimal reproduction

pair host → Remote appears → close/reopen Android app → Remote disappears → re-pair host → Remote appears again

Research direction

Start by reproducing the sequence in the issue: pair a host, close and reopen the ChatGPT Android app, and verify that the Remote interface disappears while Settings → Remote Control → Connections still lists the hosts. Done means the Remote interface remains available after app restart without re-pairing; no source files or tests are identified in the report.
