Description

What version of the ChatGPT/Codex app are you using?

Version 26.901.51231

What subscription do you have?

ChatGPT Pro

What platform are you using?

Windows x64 (exact Windows build not captured)

What issue are you seeing?

In the new Windows ChatGPT desktop app, the message composer/input field can disappear completely after the assistant sends its first response in a normal Chat conversation.

The conversation transcript remains visible and usable for reading, but there is no input box at the bottom of the window, so the conversation cannot be continued in the desktop app. Opening the same conversation on chatgpt.com works normally and the composer is present.

This occurred in a regular Chat conversation, not while a Work task was running.

Steps to reproduce
  1. Open the new ChatGPT desktop app on Windows.
  2. Open a normal Chat conversation.
  3. Send a message.
  4. Wait for the assistant's response to complete.
  5. Observe that the composer/input field at the bottom of the conversation may disappear entirely.
  6. Open the same conversation on chatgpt.com; the composer is present there and the conversation can be continued.
Expected behavior

The composer should remain visible and anchored at the bottom of the window after every assistant response so the user can continue the conversation.

Actual behavior

The transcript renders normally, but the entire composer/input area disappears, preventing any further input in the desktop app.

Additional information

A screenshot of the failure was captured. It shows the conversation rendered normally all the way to the bottom of the app window, with no composer visible. It is not attached here because it contains personal conversation/project information.

Related reports that appear to involve the same or a closely related composer/viewport regression:

  • #23024 — Windows composer disappears after first response at 150% display scaling
  • #42649 — Windows composer disappears or moves off-screen while Work is running
  • #42776 — macOS Chat composer disappears after scrolling following a response

This report is specifically for normal Chat mode on Windows, version 26.901.51231.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the issue in the Windows ChatGPT desktop app on version 26.901.51231 using the listed steps, then compare the same conversation on chatgpt.com. Review related reports #23024, #42649, and #42776 for overlapping composer or viewport behavior. Done means the composer remains visible at the bottom after the first assistant response and the conversation can be continued.
