iOS Remote shows internal ChatGPT project folder IDs and omits saved desktop projects

Environment

• Observed September 6, 2026.
• Host: Mac mini, ChatGPT/Codex desktop 26.901.31953 (build 7868).
• Client: ChatGPT on iPhone, connected to the Mac through Remote. Exact iOS/mobile app version not captured.

Problem

The desktop Projects sidebar lists 17 saved projects (4 local and 13 ChatGPT projects). On the iPhone, Remote for that same Mac shows only three project/folder entries: the home-directory project and two entries labeled with internal g-p-... identifiers rather than the readable ChatGPT project names.

The two coded entries were matched through desktop project metadata and their existing task titles to two named ChatGPT projects. Their local working directories end in the corresponding internal project IDs. The desktop already stores readable names. The phone displays those tasks beneath coded folder labels, making the same work hard to recognize across devices.

Verified versus reported

• Desktop inventory refreshed using the app's project-list capability: 4 local and 13 ChatGPT projects remain present.
• The user directly confirmed the three iPhone entries and the task titles within a coded entry.
• The user successfully found this standalone investigation task through Remote search. Task access works at least for that conversation; the problem is not simply an entirely disconnected host.
• Two omitted local projects have existing folders and task records. A third omitted local project's configured folder is absent, so that one is a separate caveat, not evidence explaining all omissions.
• Read-only inspection found seven local app-server project records with readable names. Desktop metadata says project migration is complete and task-association migration is not; installed code explicitly writes that state, so we are not claiming it proves a failed migration.
• We have not established whether all ChatGPT projects should appear in the Remote selector, or whether the omissions and coded labels share one cause.

Expected behavior

For supported projects and tasks on the selected host, Remote should provide discoverable access with readable project names. Any difference from the combined desktop project inventory should be explicit, rather than showing internal folder identifiers or silently omitting supported local projects.

The recent-chat workaround has not been tested in this installation. No projects, conversations, files, names, memberships, settings, or internal databases were changed as a repair. No deletion or sync failure is alleged.

Please confirm the supported Remote project scope, whether these coded labels and omissions are known issues, and a supported repair or workaround that preserves existing conversations and project membership. Private project names, full IDs, paths, and conversation contents are intentionally omitted.

Start by confirming the supported Remote project scope and comparing the desktop project inventory with the three iPhone entries, including coded labels and omitted local projects. Inspect the seven local app-server project records, desktop migration metadata, and project/task-association migration state; review #36040 and #22806. Done means supported projects are discoverable with readable names and any exclusions have a supported, non-destructive workaround.
