Title: Linux desktop composer spellcheck incorrectly flags Portuguese (Portugal) text

Environment
  • Codex Desktop version: 26.901.41600
  • OS: Ubuntu 24.04
  • Desktop environment: GNOME
  • Display server: Wayland
Description

The Codex Desktop composer spellcheck appears to use an English dictionary or does not correctly support Portuguese (Portugal).

Correct Portuguese text is underlined in red, including words such as:

  • olá
  • confirmação
  • agente
  • mesmo

This makes it difficult to distinguish actual spelling errors from valid Portuguese text.

Steps to reproduce
  1. Open Codex Desktop on Ubuntu.
  2. Focus the message composer.
  3. Type Portuguese text, for example:
"Olá, esta é uma confirmação do agente."
  4. Observe that valid Portuguese words are underlined in red.
Expected behavior

The composer should support Portuguese (Portugal), preferably with:

  • a selectable pt-PT spellcheck dictionary; or
  • automatic use of the Ubuntu/system spellcheck language.
Actual behavior

Valid Portuguese (Portugal) words are marked as spelling errors. There is no visible way to select pt-PT in the composer.

Additional information

The issue is reproducible while typing directly in the composer. The attached screenshot shows the red underlines.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the issue in the Linux desktop composer on Ubuntu 24.04 with GNOME and Wayland, using the Portuguese example from the report. Trace how the composer selects its spellcheck language or system dictionary, then verify that valid pt-PT text is no longer underlined and that a language-selection path works if provided.
