Description

Please add a clear, supported way for personal-account users to permanently delete individual chats/tasks in the Codex/ChatGPT desktop app, including archived conversations.

On macOS, I cannot find a Delete option in a conversation's sidebar/context menu. Archiving keeps the conversation and does not meet the need to remove unwanted chat history.

Requested behavior:

  • Provide a Delete action for individual active and archived chats on personal accounts.
  • Include a confirmation that clearly explains what will be deleted and any applicable retention limits.
  • Make this available through the desktop interface without requiring manual file or database changes.

If a supported deletion path already exists for these conversations, please make it discoverable in the interface and documentation.

Related report: https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/42613

This request concerns the missing user-facing deletion control; it does not assume the limitation is unique to personal accounts.

Research direction

Start with related issue #42613 and inspect the desktop conversation sidebar/context-menu entry points mentioned in the report. Done means personal-account users can delete active and archived individual chats through the supported interface, with a clear confirmation and retention explanation, or can discover an existing supported path.
