Description
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
26.901.31953 (build 7868)
What subscription do you have?
Not provided
What platform is your computer?
Controller: macOS 26.6.2 (25G83), arm64. Remote device: Linux; distribution and remote Codex version not yet collected.
What issue are you seeing?
A Linux ThinkCentre is listed in Settings > Connections > Control other devices in the macOS app. The supplied screenshot shows a green Connected status and the device toggle enabled.
After returning to the app, the user cannot find how to select this connected Linux device to start work. The app's available project listing returns no saved project from that remote device.
This report concerns the missing or unclear next step after a successful-looking device connection. We have not confirmed that the Add remote project host picker itself rejects or omits this device.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
User-reported workflow:
- Connect a Linux device in the macOS Codex app.
- Open Settings > Connections > Control other devices.
- Observe the Linux device showing Connected with its toggle enabled.
- Return to the main app and try to start a task on the connected device.
- The user cannot locate the device-selection or remote-project workflow.
What is the expected behavior?
A connected Linux device should have a clear action for opening or adding a remote project and starting a task. If additional setup is required, or this connection type does not support the intended Linux workflow, show that requirement and the next step in the connection UI.
Additional information
Observed on September 5, 2026.
No SSH config exists on the controlling Mac. SSH was suggested as an alternative but has not been configured or tested, so this is not a report of an SSH connection failure.
Related reports with different remote operating systems: https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/23933 and https://github.com/openai/codex/issues/30727.
No IP addresses, account identifiers, tokens, raw logs, or session transcripts are included.

Research direction
Start with the macOS app flow at Settings > Connections > Control other devices, then trace how a connected Linux host is surfaced when starting a task or adding a remote project. Reproduce the reported workflow and verify that the UI provides a discoverable remote-project action, or clearly states the required setup or limitation.
