Description
After updating to Codex desktop version 26.901.2854.0 on Windows, the app starts background processes but no window
appears.
Expected: The Codex desktop window opens normally.
Actual: ChatGPT.exe processes exist, but there is no renderer process and no visible window.
Troubleshooting already attempted:
- AppX re-registration
- Uninstall and reinstall
- Reset-AppxPackage
- Clean user-data profile
- Launch with --disable-gpu
None of these resolved the issue.
The previous version 26.901.1978.0 worked normally before the update. This issue has also recurred after earlier Codex
updates.

Research direction
No source file or test is identified in the report. Reproduce the launch failure on Windows with version 26.901.2854.0, compare it with 26.901.1978.0, and trace why background ChatGPT.exe processes start without a renderer or visible window; done means the desktop window opens normally after updating.
