Description
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
26.831.20005
What subscription do you have?
Enterprise
What platform is your computer?
Darwin 25.6.0 arm64 arm
What issue are you seeing?
Restarting for updates causes all open windows and associated chats across all macOS Spaces to be closed and not restored back in position.
This requires the manual effort of reopening all the new windows and their respective chats and placing them back into the respective Spaces. This becomes arduous when the number of Spaces grows to a high number.
As a tangential, this has also been made more difficult to deal with since the hotkey for opening new windows was removed in recent versions.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
Feedback ID: 01a06867-598c-7bf0-bb2d-67289fe4fe10
What is the expected behavior?
After the app restarts for an update, all previously open windows and chats and their respective positions in their respective Spaces are restored in full, as if the app restart never happened.

Research direction
Start by reproducing the update restart on macOS using the reported Feedback ID 01a06867-598c-7bf0-bb2d-67289fe4fe10, with multiple windows and chats across Spaces. Investigate the app's window and chat restoration behavior; done means previously open windows, chats, and Space positions return after an update restart.
