[macOS][regression] Manual “Transfer to Work” action disappeared from existing Chat conversations

What issue are you seeing?

The macOS desktop app previously allowed a user to manually continue an existing Chat conversation in Work while preserving the conversation context. The action was available from an assistant message's menu through Open in new branch → Transfer to Work (wording may vary by locale).

That manual action has now disappeared from the desktop app.

The same account and the same conversation still expose the action on chatgpt.com, and the web action works. AI-initiated Chat → Work handoff also works normally in the desktop app. This suggests that Work entitlement and the handoff backend are functioning; the regression appears limited to the user-facing manual action in the desktop UI.

Steps to reproduce

1. Open an existing Chat conversation in the ChatGPT macOS desktop app.
2. Open the overflow/actions menu on an assistant message.
3. Look for the branch action that manually transfers or continues the conversation in Work.
4. Observe that the option is absent.
5. Open the same conversation on chatgpt.com.
6. Open the equivalent assistant-message menu.
7. Observe that Open in new branch → Transfer to Work is present and works.

Expected behavior

The desktop app should retain the previously available manual Chat → Work action, allowing the user to decide when to continue an existing discussion as a Work task while preserving its context.

Actual behavior

The desktop UI no longer exposes the manual action. The only current workarounds are:

• ask the AI to initiate the handoff; or
• open the conversation on the web and manually transfer it there.

Additional information

• This worked in an earlier version of the macOS desktop app. I noticed it was missing after a recent desktop/UI update, but I cannot identify the exact first affected build.
• This is not a request for a new feature; it is a regression of a previously available desktop workflow.
• The same account has Work access.
• AI-initiated handoff works.
• Web manual transfer works.
• No private conversation IDs or account data are included. Redacted screenshots can be supplied if needed.

Reproduce this in the macOS desktop app by opening an existing Chat conversation and inspecting the assistant-message overflow menu. Compare the available actions with chatgpt.com, especially Open in new branch → Transfer to Work, and verify that the manual action returns and preserves the conversation context without affecting the working AI-initiated handoff.
