Description

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

26.825.51511

What subscription do you have?

ChatGPT Pro plan

What platform is your computer?

Microsoft Windows NT 10.0.26200.0 x64

What issue are you seeing?

In the Codex/ChatGPT Work desktop app on Windows, attempting to start a live Voice chat from an existing local Codex/Work conversation using the normal Voice control fails with:

  • “Voice chat couldn’t start”
  • “Voice chat is unavailable”

The same account and microphone work in another existing conversation. Restarting ChatGPT Work resolves the problem temporarily, but the error reappears frequently.

The user selected “Send feedback”. The app then displayed a confirmation panel saying “Feedback uploaded” and stating that the feedback had been uploaded.

What steps can reproduce the bug?
  1. Open the Codex/ChatGPT Work desktop app on Windows and open an existing local Codex/Work conversation.
  2. Click the normal Voice icon/control with the mouse to start a live Voice chat.
  3. Immediately observe the panel:
    • “Voice chat couldn’t start”
    • “Voice chat is unavailable”
The panel provides exactly three options: “Try again”, “Send feedback”, and “Back”.
  4. Select “Send feedback”.
  5. Observe the confirmation panel “Feedback uploaded”. It states that the feedback was uploaded.
  6. Restart ChatGPT Work. Voice starts working temporarily.
  7. Continue using the app until the same Voice error reappears frequently.

The issue is reproducible using the normal Voice control in an existing local conversation. Voice works in another existing conversation with the same account and microphone.

What is the expected behavior?

Clicking the normal Voice control in the current local Codex/Work conversation should start a live Voice chat, or show a specific actionable error if Voice cannot be started there. Restarting ChatGPT Work should not be required as a recurring workaround.

Additional information

Environment: Windows 10.0.26200.0 x64. Voice works in another existing conversation, so microphone and account availability do not appear to be the cause. Restarting ChatGPT Work resolves the issue temporarily, but the error returns frequently.

Research direction

No source file, test, or entry point is named. Start by reproducing the failure on Windows in an existing local Codex/Work conversation, comparing it with a conversation where Voice works and checking whether restarting changes the state. Done means Voice starts reliably without recurring restarts, or the app shows a specific actionable error.
