ChatGPT iOS 1.2026.230 repeatedly opens Remote Setup on app launch

What issue are you seeing?

The ChatGPT iOS app repeatedly opens the Codex Remote / Remote Setup screen when the app is launched, instead of opening the normal ChatGPT conversation/home experience.

This is not caused by a Home Screen shortcut, widget, or external deep link. The behavior also reproduces when launching ChatGPT directly from the iOS App Library.

Environment

• Device: iPhone 14 Pro (iPhone15,2)
• iOS: 26.6
• ChatGPT iOS: 1.2026.230
• Build: 32543289983
• Subscription: ChatGPT Plus
• Date observed: 2026-09-02

Steps to reproduce

1. Open ChatGPT normally on iPhone.
2. Navigate back to a regular ChatGPT conversation/home screen.
3. Fully close the ChatGPT app from the iOS app switcher.
4. Launch ChatGPT directly from the iOS App Library (not via a shortcut, widget, or link).
5. Observe that the app opens the Remote / Remote Setup experience again.

The issue has reproduced multiple times.

Expected behavior

Launching ChatGPT normally should open the standard ChatGPT interface (or restore the last normal conversation), unless the user explicitly opens Remote.

Actual behavior

The app repeatedly routes to Remote Setup / Remote on startup.

Troubleshooting already tried

• Fully quitting and reopening the app
• Launching directly from the iOS App Library to rule out a deep link / shortcut
• Returning to a normal chat before closing the app

The issue still reproduces.

Possibly related

There are several recent iOS Remote Control regressions around ChatGPT 1.2026.230, but I could not find an existing report for this exact startup-routing behavior.

No file or test is named in the report. First reproduce it by opening ChatGPT from the iOS App Library after returning to a normal conversation and force-quitting; done means launch opens the standard ChatGPT home or conversation instead of Remote Setup.
