Description
What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?
26.826.12353
What subscription do you have?
Free
What platform is your computer?
Linux Mint 22.3
What issue are you seeing?
When I click “Branch in new chat”, the ChatGPT desktop app immediately becomes unresponsive.
I only click the “Branch in new chat” option. I do not perform any other action.
The sidebar is still visible and appears to be scrollable, but it does not actually scroll. The rest of the app is effectively frozen/unresponsive.
I am using the official ChatGPT desktop app on Linux.
This happens when creating a branch from a conversation.
Restarting the ChatGPT app fixes the issue.
What steps can reproduce the bug?
Feedback ID: no-active-thread-01a05d79-219c-7331-a0fa-084af2d166b6
What is the expected behavior?
The branch should be created and the app should remain responsive.

Research direction
Start by reproducing the freeze in the Linux desktop app using the reported “Branch in new chat” action and Feedback ID no-active-thread-01a05d79-219c-7331-a0fa-084af2d166b6. Trace the app’s branch-creation path and verify that a branch is created while the sidebar and rest of the app remain responsive.
